7. Rushymea to Hartside Cross

From Rushymea the route heads to Coalcleugh and Nenthead and then crosses Alston Moor to Garrigill. It continues to Ashgill where it follows the River South Tyne to Tyne Head and then onto the River Tees at Troutbeck Foot. It the follows alongside Trout Beck and then across Moor House – Upper Teesdale Nature Reserve to Dunfell Hush. From there the route loops to Dufton via Castle Green, Knock Pike and Town End Farm and returns via Hurning Lane, Cosca Hill, Green Fell and the Heights. The route continues to Great Dun Fell, Little Dun Fell, Cross Fell and to Curricks (cairns) below Skirwith Hill. From this point careful navigation is required to cross open moorland to Dun Edge, Little Knapside Hill and Friends Fell to Hartside Cross.
