6. Tan Hill to Rushymea

Leaving Tan Hill via Clay Hill the route follows the Pennine Way across Sleightholme Moor to Mellwaters and Bowes. Leaving via Clint Lane to Brookside and Fountain Head the route then crosses West Pasture to Naby and Cotherstone. Here it follows the Teesdale Way to Romaldkirk, Eggleston, New Town and Middelton-in-Teesdale where it joins the Pennine Way alongside the River Tees, past Low Force and High Force waterfalls, to Cronkley and Saur Hill Bridge. The route continues to Intake Farm, Greenhills, Bowes Close, Lingy Hill and Rough Rigg. It then crosses Coldberry and Causeway Top to Low Rigg, Wearhead and Gowshill, then over Allendale Common to Allenheads. Leaving via Dirt Pot the route continues to Swin Hope and Philipson’s Fold where it joins the Isaac’s Tea Trail to Rushymea.

The guidebook provides alternative routes from Langdon Beck to Garrigill and Dufton to provide greater choice for walking combinations.
